St Kitts Housing 2010- |
In 2007 we studied this same mountainside for a small hotel. This housing study revisits the problems of building in a pristine environment on twenty-five to sixty percent slopes. The first site plan relied exclusively on long, narrow shed buildings with minimal site coverage, minimal falls across the houses, and the most modest possible foundations. The houses were sited close to the road, |

helping to mitigate the inevitable scarring on both the upper and lower sides of the new road cut. On a second pass we were asked to study terraced houses with greater lot coverage and smaller roofs. In this site plan houses- and particularly houses on the low side of the road- extend over several levels. |
